HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING I pick guests up from the airport, I host people, I cook at home (or abroad), I take people around my city (walking and by car), I organize meetings and always try to integrate new people with a big smile, I show the visitors some hidden jewels forbidden for 'guiris', and I get some of them drunk, other exhausted of dancing... but all of them HAPPY!. God, I even like myself! :DDD Traveler: accepts and adjusts to local culture Tourist: makes local culture meet his/her needs Don't be embarrassed to use sign language. It works great, gets better with practice, and is an age-old and completely normal method of communication. You already know dozens of signs: Eat, hungry, food, restaurant--Motion to open mouth, pat stomach. Don't know--Shoulders shrugged, hands and eyebrows raised. Money, expensive, how much?--Thumb and fingers rubbed together. A little--Thumb and forefinger held close together. Time--Tap of wrist. Oops!--Fingers to mouth, eyes open wide. Which way, where?--Fingers pointed in opposite directions with quizzical look. Nice to see you--Smile. This isn't what I ordered!--Face contorted to Munch's The Scream. COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE We have had lot of guests, and really enjoyed the experience. Finally, we were hosted in Rome and then in Mumbai and we loved it! We've been hosted in San José (Costa Rica) and in Milano (by Maurizio); in Avilés (by Hector); again in Milano (Piero & Manisha). In October 2008 in l'Ametlla de Merola (by Mònica). We surfed with Guillaume in Lyon. In 2009, in Copenhaguen with Karina and Martin and in Oslo with ... and we are not planning to stop here!! :D After having hosted more than 250 people, we decided to go on a 10 months vacation around Asia and Oceania.
