About Me

Before you contact me about my couch! Please read the entire profile information. Please clarify why you want to meet me and what you think we have in common. I am a mother of two kids with a full time job, and I am very busy. I am interested in meeting new people, but I do not have time and energy for people I have nothing in common with.
When you contact me, you must use a password, which is hidden below in the text :)
If you do not use this password, I will not respond :D

Now, about me:
I am a critical social scientist, researcher, activist, and writer.
I am also a mother of two beautiful boys, have a Canadian husband, and a really cute doggie.
I am also a very good cook and food lover, traveller, gardener, winter sports lover, and a hiker. I used to be an emcee and a singer in a digital hardcore band. Occassionally I still sing.

My life philoshopy is environmentalist, humaist and pacifist. I fight for justice and equality.
I do not like neoconservatism, neoliberalism and facist corporatism. I fear racism, climate change, greed and human stupidity.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I find couchsurfing one of the greatest thing invented. I like to host people, but I am very picky. I don't host more than once a month and I only host people that I find interesting. And of course I love surfing other people's couches :), it is the best part about travelling - having local people to stay with and being able to connect with them and learn from them!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have surfed in Canada, USA, Poland, Germany, Slovenia and Croatia. I have also travelled with other couchsurfers. My couch has been surfed by people from the USA, Canada, Chile, Portugal, France, Poland, Germany, Greece, Australia, Argentina, Belgium, and many other non CS members.
In Canada I learned to trust my couchsurfers. They can feel at home in my place.

Interests

I currently work as a researcher at the BOKU university in Vienna, on a project www.foodalternatives.at and also at FSV, Charles University, on a project www.sustainaction.org. In the past I wrote a book about urban grassroots movements, a thesis on the right to the city, and papers on the punk subculture.
Check out more here: https://boku.academia.edu/MichaelaPixov%C3%A1

In the past I worked at the Climate Coalition of the Czech Republic, and also in an LGBTQ campaign for equal marriage.

I do my share of teaching. I am a lecturer at the University of New York in Prague (UNYP) and also UMPRUM.

My big passion is writing and speaking out about all kinds of social and environmental issues, ranging from climate crisis to housing crisis, activism, social movements, feminist issues, democratic deficit, environmental destruction, sustainable food systems, gardening etc. I have my own blog: http://blog.aktualne.cz/blogy/michaela-pixova.php
and occassionaly publish in the online commentary magazin A2larm: https://a2larm.cz/bio/michaela-pixova/

My next passion is travelling - backpacking, hiking, snowboarding. I have been to Asia and most European countries, as well as Canada, USA, Cuba, Morocco. Unfortunately I feel like I won't be able to do as much of it. In part due to having two small kids, and also because of climate change and feeling bad about flying.

Aside from all of the above, I am also into art, music, cooking and baking, abandoned buildings, yoga, dogs (!I especially my doggie Manicka!), books, languages, drawing, watching series and movies .) I also love conversations about social sciences, politics, philosophy etc etc. Password: climatejusticenow!

Teach, Learn, Share

Aside from talking about climate change, climate crisis and climate action, I can also give you the perspective of a critical geographer on many things in our weird era of Anthropocene... Such as the corporate food system and its alternatives, such as gardening. I am also quite knowlegdable when it comes to activism, civil society and social movements.
I can teach you how to cook some vegetarian and exotic meals (maybe some Czech ones too :) or how to snowboard :)
I can share my experience with home birth!
I can teach you some Czech, tell you about our country and Prague.
