About Me

www.MikeAcrossAmerica.com

As of March 13, 2019 I am walking across the United States. It's something I've wanted to do for 20 years and I might have a window to do it. I would start from Venice CA and head through Phoenix AZ, Waco TX, New Orleans LA (got to be there for the JazzFest), and maybe end in Florida. I am planning on going to Jazzfest though as I do every year.

I don't care if the glass is half full or half empty I just want to know why it is leaking. I'm a very analytical guy who takes responsibility for fixing things. Typically I'm motivated by good ideas and jump into something because it just needs to be done.

I put on a suit to go to church every Sunday. I was a Scoutmaster for a small Boy Scout troop. I am employed as a video editor. I've produced some theatre over the years but have more recently made Christmas videos at ChristmasBarrel.com. I'm living in Los Angeles because I like the weather, and nothing more important than the weather has enticed me away.

I have a dry sense of humor that I need to tone down when I'm meeting somebody. Truth be told, I'm a bit of a loner - as in I recharge by being by myself - but I am also a very social person and most of my friends and acquaintances wouldn't consider me a loner at all.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I have hosted a few times in the past as well as couch surfing in Brazil a few years ago. I currently have a roommate and don't have space to host anybody.

I'm hoping that If I do take my walk across the country I can line up enough people to help me make it a more comfortable trip and break up the camping. This might be a bit outside the scope of the site but there will be several days in California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas that I won't have a water source for multiple days. It would be great to find some people willing to some water drops for me in advance.

Interests

Comedy, hiking, theatre, Arbor Day, board games, photography

I love a good hamburger.

I love camping but every once in a while I'll wake up after a poor night's sleep and question my enthusiasm for the activity. I think I'll always enjoy hiking until my knees give out.

As mentioned I have produced some small theatre and attend 4-8 productions a year. (Actually, the past year or two I've been attending much more live music including Barenaked Ladies, Doobie Brothers, Jukebox the Ghost, JazzFest, The Mormon Tabernacle Choir, The LA Phil)

My love for Arbor Day started as a joke but I'm running with it. One of my travel goals is to create a video series of interesting trees. If you have any interesting trees in your area please let me know.
