Overview
About Me
Hi! I'm Jordi from Barcelona. Some people call me Asher, which means happiness in Hebrew.
For +8 years traveling around the world; I am now based in Switzerland, and loving it.
You may notice in me the duality of the lawyer/artist.
I’m a jurist by education and keep often in mind the human law’s power to create reality. The lawyer-chaman archetype: We live in a matrix and through active consciousness and knowledge we are able to bend it, to step out and in at will.
I’m a traveler by passion. I’ve been touched by people’s hospitality in many countries. I host to return karma. Couchsurfing makes the connection, we do the rest. This is another matrix.
Trying to live the less seriously possible while keeping responsible and mindful of others. I’m moved by love and humour.
I appreciate wildness and authenticity in people. I am very tolerant and non-judgemental. I understand life is complicated and most is relative and subjective. I tend to see the bright sight of everyone.
As a host, I improvise throughout the week. I’m keen to go for a walk outdoors and interested in broad knowledge conversations; religion, world cultures, geopolitics, arts, science, spiritual connections.
Specially when it rains, I love spending an afternoon playing chess, reading books and listening to music at home. I like chess very much and I used to be a teacher for children.
There is no right or wrong but I spot love or fear, in actions.
Traveling is a good school of life and hosting people brings the flair of traveling.
I only welcome good vibes at home.
I believe in the old school motto of Couchsurfing; this to be a meaningful cultural exchange between two humans.
The couch may still be open just for a night-crash, when in urgent need.
Otherwise, I tend to host up to 2 nights. If then we get along and circumstances allow and you want/need we could extend.
As a traveler, I move slowly around the world and focus in the human and natural side. I have some fun adventures in my memory:
hitchhiked all UK and Ireland when I was 18;
lived in an Israelian kibbutz when I was 19;
hitchhiked from Barcelona to Shanghai when I was 20;
co-organized the biggest university parties of Barcelona and co-created a student scolarship with +15k€ annual funding;
co-created a youth movement for the independence of Catalonia (although my perspective on the topic evolved);
drove through the Norwegian fjords with a campervan;
crossed Russia with the transiberian train;
crossed the Mongolian-Chinese border in a charcoal truck; sailed the Indonesian archipelago;
learnt yoga and paranayama in an Indian Ashram and stayed in a himalayan cabin in Malana;
slept in the streets of Tokyo to experience the japanese homeless landscape;
after being caught by police squating a front-beach empty house, was invited to be resident artist in the same owner’s resort in Taiwan;
hiked an active volcano in Indonesia;
joined the 2017 World Rainbow Gathering in Java;
planted a forest in Nepal;
organized a Spanish language school in China;
rent out villas in Vietnam;
lived 4 years in Asia;
cycled alone from Istanbul to Barcelona;
sold drawings in the streets and markets of Taipei, Belgrad and Berlin;
built a camper van in Vancouver and travelled across the North American west coast;
picked cherries in Canada and helped in a weed farm in California;
worked as a gardener for a Swiss billionaire;
sold gym machines online for a start-up as a digital nomad;
a cat gave birth to kittens next to my belly on my bed in a full moon night;
sit and served 4 times in a 10-days Vipasana course taught by Goenka… :)
and some other memories that are not proper to share in here ;)
Lately I’ve been working in the headhunting industry for Life Sciences, Finance, Commodities and Technology in Zürich.
I’ve got a VW T6 California van shared with my friend Sarah. We rent it to others to cover the cost; and I go to the nature when I have it available.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
To share with people of the world.
Interests
Chess. And table tennis. And lately jamming with clarinet.
Cats and other animals, playing and watching sports, cards or board games, taking care of plants, bonfires, getting lost in a foreign town, painting, throwing stones on lakes and a beer with friends. A bit of skiing in winter and sailing in summer :)
Stretching/ioga/pilates/acroioga. Juggling, "contemporary dancing", theatre and clowning.
I'm into Vipasana meditation, but not following strictly the daily routines. Happy to share anapana or metta meditation.
I'd like to keep more the Shabbat, that is for me a weekly day off-screen, not working, no money or worry talking, connecting with community or nature, enjoying the moment and if you wish to say, connecting with God-energy.
I find a glass of wine and some cooking together with guests to be a good plan. However, in my current place I‘m mostly eating outside or some take away, as the common area with my flatmates is a bit of a mess…
Music, Movies, and Books
It's just wonderful all the people who create something with intention.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
To be born.
Teach, Learn, Share
Remember "this will also change".
