About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Just to experience new things that change me for the better, and never to be finished doing that
ABOUT ME
I am currently working on an Irish language TV programme called ‘Ó Tholg go Tolg’ ("From Couch to Couch"), which I will be filming with my friend Ciara (ciaraní bhroin), who is presenting. We will be traveling all over Europe for the Summer documenting our experiences. The programme is all about how CouchSurfing works and how we get to see another side of a place because of this alternative way of traveling. We are hugely looking forward to this amazing experience and we hope you will be part of the fun!
I never know what to say for these things! I guess I'm just a nice, outgoing, honest girl, bit crazy. In general I don't care for money, I adore getting to really know people, and I'm very forthcoming: I think life is all about give-take.
I don't mind spending a bomb if it means my friends enjoy it, I adore food and drink and just having a good time with interesting people.
In any job I do I look forward to taking some time out to enjoy the beautiful things the world has to offer, from the places to the people to the stories behind them all. Yeah I'm basically a big hippie :)
PHILOSOPHY
People are people.
This is a phrase I find myself using all the time, and it can be used in all contexts: to attempt to explain why people do bad; to celebrate when people do good; or to laugh at how wonderfully weird people can be. It means a lot all at once and it is so true.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Making this TV show is the first time both Ciara and I have ever CouchSurfed, and we are very excited to discover and document CS, and to be able to bring our experiences to others!

Music, Movies, and Books
Music: So many bands and artists I can't list them all but I'll list a few important ones.. I love acoustic music, I'm a singer and I play acoustic stuff with friends, I have been in many bands and projects over the years. My taste is really very broad - everything from folk, indie, punk, emo, pop punk (the nostalgia will never be lost on me) to jazz, blues, rock, acoustic, soul.. I just love good music. Lyrics are very important to me - just as important as the music itself.. I'm kind of broad in all my tastes really!
Books-wise, unfortunately (I know this is terrible) I don't get much time to read, I'm a very slow reader and I've got a short attention span so this makes for a girl that loves to read and be transported by literature but rarely gets through a whole book. I loved Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials when I was younger, and of course I adore the Harry Potter books.. it's rare that one doesn't.. other than that the last book I read was the Great Gatsby and of course that's a classic. Books that have left a lasting impression on me are usually poetry or short story books, and then there's 'Four Letters of Love' by Niall Williams - a beautifully written love story set in Ireland, which I lived. I really must work on reading more! I will.
Movies: Again that's so broad but here's a few:
Say Anything, The Breakfast Club, (pretty much any John Cusack or Brat Pack or John Hughes film to be honest), Buffalo 66, Donnie Darko, The Nightmare Before Christmas (I love Tim Burton - not in the cult way just in the he's hugely talented way), Almost Famous, Disney films, Almadovar films, 500 Days of Summer, 10 Things I hate About You, Josie and the Pussycats, Casablanca, I could go on and on..
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Scuba diving on the great barrier reef was just incredible.. I'm lucky enough to have parents who love to travel and think that seeing the world is one of the most important things they could have passed on, so they saved money up so that we could go to new places. One year, we went on a trip they'd been saving for for years, around the world: LA, Hawaii, Sydney, Cairns, Brisbane, Hong Kong. I don't know if I can pick a best moment, the trip was so packed and varied, exciting and huge, we did so much and I appreciate every little thing.. But scuba diving sticks out, because not many my age can say they've seen a giant sea turtle swim into a swarm of jelly fish and just nip them up, one by one for his dinner.
Another moment would be spending the weekend at a friend's house in Thomastown, where 7 of us all went down after begging, stealing or borrowing every piece of recording equipment we could, to just play music, record it and have fun doing so. 3 days, down the country in a big beautiful house with no-one around for miles, playing music as loud as we wanted, drinking in the back garden (field), staying up til 5am trying and failing to perfect a Fleet Foxes harmony, in the summertime. Friends, music, drink, real, memorable fun. A high point for sure.
Teach, Learn, Share
I would pack as many Irish words and phrases into an experience with someone wanting to learn them as possible. And I would love to learn anything that anybody's willing to teach me!
Specifically, I'd love to learn to be a better cook, and some money managing tips would help me out (I'm terrible with money - I hate the stuff so I just kind of throw it at whatever I can to turn it into something I or those close to me can actually enjoy).. But really anything that anyone could teach me would be appreciated. It's rarely bad to know more about anything, and I really do love hearing or seeing people talk about or do something they are passionate about.
