About Me

Current status: After five years in Asia, three years in North and South America, three years of overland travel across 20 countries in Africa, and last year around the Middle East, I have returned to Europe. I might be able to host again in December, and if I am not there, there's a chance you can stay with my parents.

About 15 years ago I found out couchsurfing, and since then, I've been excited to see life through the eyes of everyone I've been able to meet! Since 2012, I spent about five years in Asia. I hitchhiked from Serbia to China during five months, survived Afghanistan on the way, survived life in China as well, lived in a stinky, polluted and ugly capital of Indonesia, which grew in me like a cancer... and now I love it. If there's a place to return one day, it will be Jakarta. After Asia I went on a slow three year trip from north to south America, but since covid started, I decided to go where people are more relaxed and that's how I ended up in Africa for another three years.

That was about my life. This is about my personality:

Meaning of my name is "unpredictable", and it matches my personality. I usually have need to move, drink coffee and listen stories from different people. I can also get very lazy or very quiet sometimes, and my passion are movies, which I've been collecting for last 15 years (I also travel with about 1,000 of them). One fact: I was born backwards, and maybe because of that I don't like to follow the rules. I'm curious about almost everything, and I don't have many prejudices about people. Everybody have some bad habits, but I am trying to focus on positive things in people. Also, my profile might be much more impressive than me. Well depending on my mood... So, don't expect me to be amazing or incredible person... or a party guy. I prefer day over night :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am here to host, surf, drink, eat, laugh, drive, help, show you around, made you a member of CS if you're not, bore you with my stories, I can cook for you, I can drive you around the city or other cities, I can help you with hosts in neighbor cities or countries if you have problems, I will try to give you a good time with me, and if you are my guest - I will dedicate myself to you 90% of the time, because whoever you are - I want YOU! (Do I scare you? haha)

Sometimes I think that Im wasting my time here. But time you enjoy wasting is not a wasted time :)

Interests

I am interested in every place I haven't been before. That's why I will probably never visit all the countries in the world, as it takes me forever to explore one single country.

I have hosted 312 people so far (in Serbia, Latvia, Indonesia, China, Ecuador and Colombia)

I have stayed with more than 1000 people, and one day I will have to calculate how many nights in total :)

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: I prefer European/Asian/South-American cinema, but I am addicted on movies in general and curious about everything, so from time to time, I end up watching even bad Hollywood films :)
Some of my favorite (good) movies are:
Cinema Paradizo (1989), Once Upon a Time in America (1984), To Kill a Mockingbird (1962), La Dolce Vita (1960), The Green Mile (1999), Jean de Florette (1986), Judgment in Nuremberg (1961), Sunset Blvd (1950), Dogville (2003), The Lives of Others (2006), The Road Home (1999), A Separation (2006), Burnt by the Sun (1994), El Aura (2005), Hiroshima mon Amour (1959), Mary and Max (2009), The Lion in Winter (1968), A Clockwork Orange (1971)
Directors: Giuseppe Tornatore, Yimou Zhang, Stanley Kubrick, Federico Fellini, Billy Wilder, John Huston, Kim Ki-Duk, Abbas Kiarostami
Music: jazz, blues, classical, pop-rock
Books: When I was a kid, I went through my grandpa's old books, and found maybe 100 year old edition of "Michael Strogoff - A Courrier of the Czar" (by Jules Verne). I still feel like I read it yesterday, as that book made me curious about life in far away places... Some of the other ones I liked were: The Name of the Rose (Umberto Eco), Stranger (Albert Camus), South of the Border West of the Sun (Murakami)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

My life is one amazing thing I've done, and these few chapters listed below are just small part of what I've experienced on my life journey:

- survived overland trip through Afghanistan disguised as a bearded local, wearing local clothes, and pretended to be deaf and mute. My chances of being kidnapped or killed were just 30% :)
- during my last hitchhiking trip across Central Asia, I was detained 3 times in 3 different countries under suspicion of being a terrorist
- hitchhiked a boat from Haiti to Jamaica
- entered some forbidden island in Malta, after guards figured out that I am some construction planner
- took one way road in Russia, 150km long, till it literally finished, with the sign saying "ROAD END" and the big wall brick. Then I drove back :)
- worked as a manager in Latvian hotel, without knowing a word of Latvian language
- worked as a "freelance taxi driver" in Kiev, with my own car, picking up everybody who raised their right hand, including drunk Santa Clause just day before new year
- sold potatoes in a market with some truck drivers in Tajikistan, yelling in their own language
- got an unpleasant "good morning kiss" in Burma, from 60 year old school teacher who said he loves me , while his wife was sleeping
- attended the "sky burial" in Tibetan plateau, where monks feed the vultures with human flesh. I was so close to even smell it
- drove a car from co-passenger's seat, as the driver I hitchhiked in Croatia was totally drunk and on the way to his mistress who needs to baptize the kid he has with his 3rd wife
- chased by a big wild monkey while climbing the rock with sandals in the jungles of Sri Lanka
- translated a book for a girl I love
- spent a night being interrogated / stripped naked at the border of Belarus, as I was suspected to be some immigrant or spy. At the end had to write "I love Belarussian border guards" on my own language for them to have a souvenir
- met Indonesian guy who spoke Serbian and sang songs of Zdravko Colic
- drove for more than 150,000 km around Europe, hitchhiked about the same distance around Asia, and while on the road, I changed many plans of many of my guests/hosts as well as the life of few people
