About Me
Hello, fellow adventurers!
I'm Matt, your quintessential globe-trotter and a certified cultural enthusiast. You know how people study International Relations and think they're all global? Well, I've taken it up a notch and visited 79 countries - yup, 75 of them are UN members if you're into stats and trivia!
By day (and sometimes by night), I am a tech enthusiast, consultant, civil society advocate, and a software project manager. But let's be honest, my heart lies in exploring the corners of the world and connecting with people from all walks of life. I've made friends in the most unexpected places and I'm pretty sure I could negotiate a peace treaty between two rival ant colonies if I had to!
As a proud European, I consider myself a citizen of this beautifully diverse continent. I can go from a heated debate about the intricacies of Polish pierogi to Italian politics and even guide you through a dense German philosophy book - all while plotting my next travel adventure on a world map.
But don't let my serious side intimidate you. I love a good laugh and I'm just as comfortable discussing quantum physics as I am sharing hilarious travel stories over a campfire. With me around, there's never a dull moment!
As much as I love to wander, I equally enjoy the privilege of being hosted. There's something special about being welcomed into someone's home, sharing a meal, and swapping tales of our journeys. So if you're kind enough to offer your couch, I promise to be an entertaining guest. I'll bring a spirit of camaraderie, a bucket load of hilarious travel stories, and maybe even a tech tip or two (because, why not?). Trust me, I'm easy-going, respectful, and always up for helping out - whether that's preparing a meal or fixing your slow Wi-Fi. And who knows? By the time I leave, you might just have a new perspective on the world.
So, whether you're a seasoned traveller or a newbie stepping out into the world, I'm your guy. I promise an enriching exchange of stories, experiences, and cultures that will add a dash of spice to your Couchsurfing journey.
So, are you ready to embark on an adventure? Because I sure am! Just send me a couch request or host me when I need it and let's fill our travel diaries with unforgettable stories. After all, who wouldn't want their friendly neighbourhood IT guy to also be their epic travel guide?
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Why am I on Couchsurfing? Well, for me, it's more than just a platform for travel accommodation. It's about the global community, the friendships that transcend borders, and the exchange of knowledge and experiences that it fosters.
Having journeyed through 79 countries (75 of them UN members, if you're keeping count), I've come to cherish the connections I've made and the local insights I've gained along the way. It's not just about ticking off destinations on a map, but about immersing myself in diverse cultures, cuisines, and conversations. The world is my classroom, and Couchsurfing is my key to unlocking its treasures.
As a technology enthusiast and a social sector advocate, I also value the opportunity to share my experiences and expertise with fellow travellers. Whether it's guiding someone through the complexities of blockchain or discussing the nuances of international politics, I'm all in.
So, I'm here on Couchsurfing to connect, to share, and to learn. To meet you, hear your stories, and hopefully add a few more pins to my travel map. And who knows? Maybe even share a laugh or two over a campfire or a shared meal. After all, isn't that what travel is all about?

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
One incredible thing I've done is journey into the two of the most enigmatic and inaccessible countries on Earth - Turkmenistan and North Korea. My thirst for understanding different cultures and societies led me to these countries, each with their distinct narratives and complexities.
In Turkmenistan, the surreal architecture of Ashgabat and the mesmerizing Darvaza gas crater offered an uncanny blend of natural wonder and human ingenuity. North Korea, on the other hand, provided a glimpse into a society so different from what we're accustomed to, challenging my understanding of cultural norms and political ideologies.
These experiences were not just about setting foot in rarely visited places, but about going beyond the headlines and discovering the human stories that lie within. The memories from these journeys have been indelibly etched in my mind, and they form an essential part of the patchwork of experiences I've gathered from my travels to 79 countries and counting.
Teach, Learn, Share
At the heart of my journey lies a profound belief in the power of shared learning. "Teach and learn, share your knowledge" is my mantra. My experiences have taught me that every interaction is a two-way street, an opportunity to exchange wisdom and learn from each other's unique perspectives. Whether it's a deep dive into the world of blockchain or a simple chat about our favorite travel destinations, I'm all ears and always ready to offer my insights.
I deeply enjoy listening - it's how I've learned so much about the world, technology, and people's diverse experiences. But I'm also passionate about sharing my own knowledge and experiences. So if you have a story to tell, a lesson to share, or a question about anything from international politics to tech trends, let's talk! I believe that through this mutual exchange, we can grow together and make our Couchsurfing journey even more enriching and meaningful.
What I Can Share with Hosts
First and foremost, I bring a spirit of camaraderie and respect for your space. I'm always keen to lend a hand, whether it's helping out with the dishes, cooking a meal (prepare for some Polish delicacies!), or even fixing a dodgy Wi-Fi connection. As a tech enthusiast, I can offer some tips and tricks on anything from streamlining your digital life to making sense of blockchain. But beyond that, I offer a willingness to listen and share. I love to engage in meaningful conversations on a wide range of topics, from international politics to the latest tech trends. So if you're hosting me, expect hearty discussions, shared laughter, and a unique perspective on the world from a seasoned traveler who's journeyed through 79 countries and counting!
