About Me

What's up! My name is James, I went to school for aerospace engineering, and I worked for a year as a mechanical engineer, and now I'll be starting a position as an au pair in France beginning at the end of August!

I'll be arriving in Europe in mid July, though, to travel around and explore. I've been itching for some adventure, some culture, some travel, and as always, more friendship.

I'm super social. I love meeting new people, making new friends, and chilling and talking. I want to learn about you, your culture, your city, your attitudes, everything!

I also do Lindy Hop. It's my current passion in life; I like to say that I engineer to finance my Lindy Hopping, which I think is true. I love the artform so much; if you're interested here's some very high level international dancing! (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7IeAAwb7OoI)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm on couchsurfing to try to explore the world! I've lived in the Midwestern US my entire life and would like to see what's out there. Love connecting with people, chatting, having a beer (on me), and experiencing life as you do!

Music, Movies, and Books

For music, I've traditionally only liked 60s and 70s music, like the beatles (huuuuge beatles guy), pink floyd, simon and garfunkel, etc. But recently I've been getting into more recent stuff like tyler the creator, father john misty, lana del ray, etc. I also love old swing jazz stuff. Idk I'll listen to anything but it's hard to pin down a specific vibe.

For books I love self help, personal development stuff like four hour work week, atomic habits, and the magic of thinking big.

I am a huge movie guy. Some of my favorites (in no order) are:
There will be blood
Whiplash
The lighthouse
12 Angry men
Ladri di biciclette
Megamind

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've graduated with two bachelor's degrees in 5 years: one in aerospace engineering and one in mathematics.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have tons of hobbies! I can teach you how to play guitar or swing dance (I've been dancing for almost 2 years and I'm constantly getting better), I can help with math if you're a student, I can help with dating (I think I'm pretty good at interacting with girls but I'm still learning haha). I can also share a bunch of fun cultural info about the US! How people are, what people think about, what common cultural phenomena are, etc.

I'd love to learn about other people in other parts of the world (even in the US). What are you like? How's your life going? Are you happy? If so how'd you achieve that?

What I Can Share with Hosts

I keep very clean, by habit. I'm not crazy about it but I keep my space picked up. I can clean, cook food, watch an animal, help with repairs or handywork (I've not done any but I'm 100% sure I can learn)
