About Me

Hello! My name is Katie, I am a PhD student at the University of Arizona, living in Tucson, AZ

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I’ve been inspired by and relied upon the kindness of strangers too many times to count and would like to contribute to good karma in the world! Nice reminder that most people are good and trustworthy.

Always cool to meet interesting people you wouldn’t have otherwise. Also may need a spot to crash sometime :)

Interests

Traveling, running, swimming, biking (training for my first triathlon), tennis, cooking and eating (ok mostly eating lol), exploring new places, watching movies, laughing and enjoying life

Music, Movies, and Books

For music, my taste ranges all across the board. I generally enjoy rock, soul, funk. Some of my forever favorite artists are Jonathan Richman and the Modern Lovers, Bob Dylan, Wilco, Pulp, The Zombies, T. Rex, Sly and the Family Stone, Al Green, Pixies. I also like garage stuff like The Black Lips and The Garden quite a lot.

I think some of my taste might be considered "cheesy", but I like high energy stuff with inspirational messages. The songs I have on repeat are currently "Do you Believe in Magic?" by the Lovin' Spoonful, "Steal My Sunshine" by Len, and "Vienna" by Billy Joel, if that tells you anything about me.

As for movies, I like stuff from the 80's and 90's, like Moonstruck, A League of Their Own, Jurassic Park, Back to the Future (the first one only), When Harry Met Sally. Some of my other favorites are Dog Day Afternoon and Scott Pilgrim. As for recent films, I thought Poor Things was really fabulous, as well as Past Lives. I don't like Marvel or most sci-fi fantasy stuff. I enjoy movies based on real things like The Social Network, The Wolf of Wall Street, etc.

Some of the books I've enjoyed most, somewhat recently that I can think of right now, have been In Cold Blood, Kafta on the Shore, Gone Girl, A Visit from the Goon Squad, Kitchen, Birnam Wood, My Brilliant Friend and its sequels
