About Me

Hello! My name is Valdemar and I come from Denmark. I am a 20-year-old gap-year student who loves to seek out new experiences, peoples and cultures! I love reading books, especially from classical literature, and taking long walks in nature. Reading books has always been a great hobby of mine, that helps me gain new insight into the world and new perspectives to ponder. I am also very interested in history and politics and it is in these subjects I hope to study soon.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I have been traveling for a few months in Costa Rica and the US by this point, both sightseeing at volunteering as a workawayer in various capacities. Including at a hostel, an american family, a local charity in Fresno and at a retreat/forest conservation center. It has been an incredible experience and I have made many new friends and gotten more experience/skills from these endeavors. I will leave the US in a few weeks and I am seeking a new way of experiencing American way of life and meeting new people, and I thought trying couchsurfing could be fun and gainful both for me and potential hosts!

Music, Movies, and Books

I listen to many different things, but I have a special love rock and indie. Of the more well known things I love are Tame Impala, Pink Floyd, David Bowie, Cage the Elephant, Franz Ferdinand and Sticky Fingers(I know). I would also love to share som danish music, if interested.

My favorite book (series) is probably The Witcher series. Not because they are necessarily the best books in the entire world objectively speaking, but because they reignited my love of reading, when I read them as a teenager and I have gotten a few good friends through the witcher community.

In terms of movies - I really don't know, maybe Spirited Away.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I don't know if this counts but was recently in Nepal working together with other volunteers for DanChurchAid, a non-profit charity NGO, where I worked on various projects in Nepali villages, lived with a wonderful host-family and gained a lot of new experiences. After that we travelled around Denmark holding presentations all over the country talking about our experiences and the need for - and importance of - emergency aid all over the world. This was in preparation for DanChurchAid's nation-wide charity fundraiser. It was a great success, with the fundraiser significantly surpassing last year's donations. This wonderful experience has motivated me to seek out new ways of volunteering and seeing the world
